The Bahamas lies to the north east of the Caribbean Sea in the Atlantic Ocean, to the southeast of the United States, to the north of Cuba, Dominican Republic and Haiti and to the northwest of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The Bahamas has a tropical to subtropical climate, which is often moderated by significantly by the waters of the Gulf Stream in the winter season. In the summer and autumn seasons, the Bahamas are prone to storm surges, heavy rain fall, and high wind due to the hurricanes that pass near or through the islands.
