Facts about the Grand Bahama Island 2010

The Bahamas is a country of many islands such as the Grand Bahamas, Andros Island, Cat Island, Long Island, San Salvador Island, Crooked Island and Nassau (the capital city of the Bahamas). The Grand Bahamas lies in the northernmost portions of the Bahamas. Situated at 55 miles just across the state of Florida in the United States, the Grand Bahamas is the fourth largest island in the Bahamas. The population of the Grand Bahamas island is about 75,000 people.

The economy of the Grand Bahamas depends largely on the tourists arriving directly and through the Cruise Ships that visit the Grand Bahamas as a part of their Caribbean Cruise itinerary. The Grand Bahamas has three administrative regions East Grand Bahama, West Grand Bahama and The City of Freeport. Lucaya is one of the frequently visited tourist destinations in the Grand Bahamas. Lucaya is famous for its pristine sea water, sandy and clean beaches, and several big hotels including five star hotels such as Radisson Hotels and Our Lucaya, which is a chain of hotels made up of Reef Villages. Freeport is the capital city and also a major commercial center with commercial ship harbor and an airport.
