Travel to Andros Island Bahamas 2010

Andros Island is the largest island of the Bahamas. Andros island consists of three major islands North Andros, South Andros and Mangrove Cay. With a local population of 7800 people, Andros is the least densely populated island among all the islands in the Bahamas. Andros is famous for 225 km long barrier reef, which is the world's third longest barrier reef. Andros has thousands of kilometers of freshwater rivers, which makes it the main source of freshwater for all of the Bahamas.



Andros is famous for its Batik type of fabric, known as Androsia, manufactured locally in wide varieties of colors and designs. Despite its beautiful seas beaches and natural beauty and grand barrier reef, Andros has undergone much lesser commercial development in the tourism sector. With tropical forests spread over an area of 100 square kilometers and hundreds of swamps, Andros is the home to 50 species of orchids, two hundred varieties of birds, mangrove estuaries and many other flora and fauna. Andros is famous for its bonefishing, coral reefs and water filled caves, known as blue holes.
